Cressida (V8)

I have a 1977 mx32 V8 Cressida (ford 302ci (5.0 litre)windsor)

I am currently finishing major repairs after previous owner crashed it. Even With a stock 210hp engine this car is very fast and turns lots of heads with the V8 rumble. This car will never see the street again but will be a project drag racer. I am expecting low 13sec quarter mile times with the almost stock engine and with 3500rpm stall torque converter in a standard ford C4 3 speed auto.

Thats not a bad time from a almost stock engine. With a good carb/manifold and even a cam and you should be able to get the times down further.
What diff and gears you running ??
You would be wanting 4.11 gears for the strip.

The diff is out of Chrysler Centurer (borg warner) ratio is 3.23 that will have to do until I come up with more cash. Ideally with the stock engine I would need a 3.55. If I used a 4.11 it would run out of revs before finish line. Plus to run 4.11 I would have to replace diff for a nine inch. Remember this is old technology, peak power is at @3800rpm I will be shifting at @ 4500rpm anymore than that and you actually go slower and risk pulling the pin on a GRENADE!. Will need better pistons and rods etc to rev her more. This car is really light as it has no interior (except for the essentials). I have also pulled out the old fuel tank and replaced it with a aluminium 1 1/2 gallon one to save weight.

What are the plans for the future ? What sort of times etc are you going to aim for ?
If you are going to go with that diff set-up you will need to work on that low-down HP to get the car lauching off the line well.

P.S The Primera is mine.

I should get low 13's with current set up if I spend @$650 aus and get some good drag slicks. I have a 3500rpm stall converter for it. You probably already know, but by changing stall speed (for automatics) you can sit at the start line with 1 foot on brakes and one on the gas and the auto won't hook up fully until you reach that stall speed. Most standard converters are around 1500rpm for V8's. As I am using a 3500rpm one I will be high up in the power range before the lights go. As to my goal, to make it into the 10 second bracket would be great. but!!! money, money, money. AS some old geezer said. "A fool and his money are easily parted".

your gonna need some big dollars to get in the 10's.

A few years back (10) when i was into the dragracing stuff...we where running low/mid 12's which was pretty quick then.
To make the step up to A/SS from B/SS was just way to much as these cars where running late 10.5 to 11.5

Starts to really get into the bank book dollors

that car is sweet man, also if you HAPPEN to go 9.99 you need to have special safety equipment and roll bars and the $ starts to add up quickly. I think a V8 conversion on an old CRessedia like yours only the wagon would be kickass
