my Poor Staurn

i have a 97' saturn SC2 and the miles are starting to get up there ( 270 000) and i have noticed its performance going down hill ... does anyone think running premium in it would improve this ... and is it good to like switch back and forth... ( i might not be able to afford it ) Or if anyone else has any ideas they would be much appreciated !!

\thanks

Premium won't help at all. About all you can do is make sure you tune it up now and then and change the oil.

When was the last time you changed the spark plugs and wires? SES light coming on?

Re: my Poor Staurn

well what about your coolant sensor and a piston soak? your compression is probably dropping and could be because of the piston rings.

what about the exhaust? there are several things that need to be looked at first before getting a new motor.

Wink Re: my Poor Staurn

How old is your catalytic converter? Mine was clogged. Engine was choking at higher speeds. Car guys on radio suggested testing exhaust back pressure. I called GM and found catalytic converter has life of 70,000 miles, I was at 100,000 plus. I just replaced converter and car stopped choking.

My Saturn is at 182K. so far so good. as far as engine is concerned it has been really good to me, but changing the cat probably is not a bad idea
