Now my story, see if it makes u mad
After reading Aukeīs story I thought Iīd post mine. This happened a while ago, in Orlando. First of all I had just bought this car (94 Civic DX) in late November 2000, and the accident happened not even 2 1/2 months later in early January 2001. I was going home from soccer practice and I was driving in the middle lane. I chose the middle lane because this three lane road forks into two roads, two lanes to the right and one straight. The one that goes straight is kind of a main road and it has a lot traffic. I could go home both ways left or right, I decided to go right because I saw all the traffic on the left lane and itīs about the same time either way. The thing is that since this left lane is so busy two lights ahead it was red and the light where I was approaching it was green but as we all know even if the light is green you cannot block the intersection just in case it turns red and traffic starts flowing in the other direction. So there were a few cars sitting there even though the light was green. I kept on going, out of nowhere I see a Dodge Avenger (not sure what year, looked 98ish) right in front of me and I barely had time to react, I hit the brakes and hit him at about 45 mph, speed limit. He was turning left from the other direction. The thing is whenever you turn red and you donīt have an arrow, itīs a solid, we all know that you have to yield to traffic and turn with caution. I guess that since he saw traffic stopped at the left lane that I would stop, whatever, Iīm not sure what he was thinking, the fact is that he turned without caution. As soon as I got out of the car I heard him say sh·%, my bad itīs my fault and things like that. So I was cool about it. Cops come, take my statement, saying itīs his fault. Cop takes his statement saying that yes it was his fault, assuming the responsibility for the accident. I was like cool, all right. Suddenly out of nowhere some fat f%/&er comes and says that I crossed a red light. Eventually, when I was entering the intersection the light turned yellow. But guess what, I was already halfway in the intersection when the light turned yellow. My guess is that the fat dude saw the accident, and by the time he looked up the light had already turned red so he assumed I passed the red light. Now what I tried to explain to the cop was that if I passed a red light so did he, because he didnīt have an arrow, he had the same solid that I had, either way itīs his fault about the accident. The cop was a biatch about it and ripped up both statements and went with the witnessīs statment screwing me over. My car was totaled, my engine popped out, my freaking MB Quart speakers flew out of the doors and everything, total loss. Thank god I was wearing a seat-belt, but it left a nasty mark across my chest and my stomach for like a couple of weeks and the air bag burned my face pretty bad. Also my knee which I had surgery on a year before was with a lump on it that everytime I bent my knee it would like grow, nasty. The other dude, well I hit him on the right wheel, so basically right on the axel, thatīs why my car ended up worse. He wasnīt hurt though, which is good, he bumped his shin but he said he was ok. The thing is that he was cool about it, but in the end I ended up loosing several hundreds of dollars, insurance took care of the deductable. It was all over, atleast we thought. Well what did piss me off was that I had to take the freaking boring driving classes, the four hour ones to avoid the points on my license and I almost lost my job because of it. And I was a minor when this happened, 17 my birthday was in a month. Six months after the accident, already 18, I receive a letter from the insurance company saying that the deductible was $10,000 dollars and that total damage was $16,000 dollars so that we owed them $6,000 and that they were going to sue me if I didnīt answer soon. Iīm sorry but my car was totaled, he only had the axel screwed up. Thatīs not $16,000, I donīt even think that car is worth that much (Could be, Iīm not sure). If it was like that they should of totaled it like mine and given him the money. But since I was a minor when this happened they couldnīt come after me, so I told my dad. And my dad isnīt a kind of guy that takes those things that well, he told off the company so bad that they didnīt dare call him back or try to persue the 6 Gīs. Plus he wasnīt even in the U.S. anymore, so he really didnīt care. That part was the only upside in this whole thing. I was without a car for a half a year and was pimping moms mini-van. Well thatīs my story, let me know what you all think, was I screwed or what?:alien:
