Oil pump = Owned

Well driving along today, no boost at all, my oil pump decides it no longer wants to be apart of my car, so it commited suicide. I think its time for a rebuild anyways, due to the low ass compression and now that I have time to do a rebuild and I have another ride when I need one, the situation is almost perfect. Whats the easiest way of getting an engine up 3 flights of stairs? And any tips on pulling my engine? Should I label everything? Is it that hard, I think it should take like 3 hours tops.

Re: Oil pump = Owned

yes label everything and put it in bags. I took everything apart and didn't label crap and I had to get one of those big ass misc hardware things and kinda make shit work. We got everything together, but if we had labeled everything, we wouldn't have been looking for that missing turbo bolt.

Re: Oil pump = Owned

What about with like hoses that stay in the car, are there many or does most of it get pulled out and pretty easy to see where it goes back?

Re: Oil pump = Owned

Get a Haynes manual. Great diagrams of all the vac hoses and good, detailed instuctions on how to pull the engine.

Re: Oil pump = Owned

I actually just picked one up, and I couldnt find in there how to actually pull the engine. Its the Mitsu eclipse and eagle talon 95-01 Haynes repair manual based on a complete teardown and rebuild and the # is 68031

Re: Oil pump = Owned

3 hours tops? That's a negative, not if you do it right. Plan for a few days, things go wrong.

It took me 5 hours to get mine out. That was with labeling everything.

Re: Oil pump = Owned

If you go the haynes manual way, no (atleast not the 1g DSM haynes manual way). I asked Kevin about that, he said that getting the engine out is easier if you just take the tranny with it. I think theres a lot more work that goes into taking the tranny out too (like axles) though so theres a trade off. Talon69, I for one would be interested in how you took it out without bring the tranny with the engine.

Re: Oil pump = Owned

It took me, a weekend to get my engine out. I took the tranny out with it just because I had a good engine hoist. It took a little wiggling but it came out fine and went back it just as easy. If you need any help I JUST finished ripping our and completely rebuild my motor and putting it back in.

Most of your VAC lines you can actually get rid of unless you live in an emissions state. The harnesses that are in the car pretty much only go one way so you shouldn't have any problem.
