Bottoming out?

There are a couple songs that I have that certain parts of the song really makes the speaker excurd out. I don't want to turn it up too much because sometimes you can hear it crackle or pop when it gets to that part of the song. Is that bottoming out or what would it be. Probably the worst songs it's done it to is bass i love you. I had it turned up to about 3/4 and it got about 30 seconds in and boom. I thought it exploded. Would a bigger box help prevent this or is there anything I can do to stop it. Also will it damage my speaker or amp? I tried searching the forum and others and the net completely but I just can't find any info on bottoming out.

you are overpowering the speakers and/or the speaker box is improperly loading the sub (built wrong)

It is possible the box is built wrong, it is just a prefab I've been using to break in the speaker. Would a sealed box still do that, and is it possible to make too big of a sealed box for a certain speaker or you really can't make it too big?

Smaller box = great mechanical power handleing. if its ported then you are unloading your driver. As the suspension breaks in speakers get a tad louder and move a tad more with the same power, not the other way around.
