Re: Need help finding transmission dipstick
I just changed the transmission fluid in my father's 1997 Town Car, so I should be able to help you with this one.
The transmission oil dipstick is located between the back of the engine and the firewall, to the passenger side of the centerline (from front to rear) of the engine compartment. The dipstick and fill tube are painted black. The top of the dipstick is a round wire loop. There is no labeling or fancy pull handle like the oil dipstick. Open your hood, walk to the passenger side of the engine compartment and look behind the engine. You should be able to see it. Be careful when you pull it out. There is a metal lipped edge on the top of the firewall, and I scraped the back of my hand several times while checking the fluid level.
The dipstick in my father's car was easy to find since his car is painted white (white car, white firewall). If you have a black or dark colored car, it will be harder to find the black dipstick. It's there, just get a flashlight to help you see.
