for awhile my jeep has been leaking ATF a little bit after driving, took it to the shop and the mechanic told me its leaking from the nuetral safety switch and he will give a me estimate tomorrow on repairs. Has anyone else had this issue? Is he just bullshittin me or is it a possible problem?

Re: neutral safety switch

It is possible it could be leaking from the NSS, this is a very easiy repair, depending upon if somehow the switch is leaking or if the ATF is leaking around the threads of the NSS.

Just get a new switch and put some RTV sealant on the threads or Teflon tape and screw back into the tranny.

Re: neutral safety switch

The NSS at the dealer will cost $23 and I have replace two of them. It takes about 30 min to remove and replace the part. The hardest thing to do is releasing the electrical connector. The trick is to use a small flat screwdriver to push the tang so the connector will come off the NSS. If you do it yourself, use a small pann to catch the couple of ounces of trans fluid that will drain out of the NSS hole.

Another benefit of replacing the leaking NSS is that your backup lights will work again.
