change E36 convertible top to an E46 top

Here is one for all. I have an 1995 325i that has a vinyl rear window. I need a new top. I don't want to put another top with a vinyl window on. I know that the convertible frame is different on on the E36 than on E46.

Here is the question. Will the frame from the newer E46 convertible fit the older E36? If I can make the change over it will make my happy and keep me from having to buy her a newer car. So help here will save me!

Thanks Chris

Looks like you're buying her a new car. To do that swap is virtually impossible and definately not practical. Just to begin with, the e46 is hydraulically driven, while the e36 is electric. Just a quick look will reveal that the frames are shaped nothing alike

Yep! I knew that the frames are different because the top folds different. did not know the the method of travel was. I had hoped that I could get the parts from a salvage yard.

Square peg in a round hole.
