Let me explain this. Ive asked before and no one responded so im trying my luck again.
My 85 olds starts fine and begins to idle (although fairly fast) The problem i explain below happens even if its only -5 degrees celcius this will happen so Im ruling out that its a cold weather problem. After 5 mins of warming up or so and I put it in drive to go, as soon as i push the gas it chokes out. It will only remain running if I floor it right away which is impossible to drive with out putting it in neutral at every stop and revving the crap out of it. To go I must floor it wide open as it slowly gets power and gets some speed but i must continue to give it gas (increase speed) or it will stall unless I put it in neutral and coast while I rev it alot. It continues to do this for about 15 mins then all of a sudden it will run better and idle when stopped in drive..Im using too much gas driving around like this and it is kind of a safety hazard.. If I had to best explain what it seems like to me i would say it feels like its running on only 5 cylinders oppossed to all 6. but then why would it run better after 15 mins of warming up time adn reving the shit out of it. One time i noticed the catylic converter was really red hot becasue i had a look under there and someone mentioned my exhasut systme may be plugged. Since then I have straight piped it(removed the catyllic converter) adn it did start running better but now way louder...bu tnow its doing the same thing all over again afer about of a week or two of runnng well.. Do you think it is clogged somewhere else.? or could it be something else..I have also replaced my sparkplugs and sparkplugs wires to see if that helped and it did not. Ive tried many gas cleaners detergents or solvents and engine booster products but it seems I am wasting my money.. Can someone offer any advice to this problem? Im considering scrapping the car to a junkyard if I cant fix it and that would be a waste of a good oldsmobile car if this problem can be fixed fairly easily. Could it be a fuel filter clogg up? I bought one but Im nto sure where it is on a 85 cutlass sierra..can someone help me with that too. I appreciate any help I can get on this one. Im stumped and too broke to take it too a garage.
