wierd starting problems

I own a 1988 cutlass ciera and I am having some troubles. The damn thing starts once in a while like maybe once every month or two and runs for a week or two and then dies again and it keeps going in this cycle. Also I noticed that when I put the battery in and try to start it the battery will drain to pretty much completely dead. I take it out and charge it over night but it does it again. It may be part of my starting problem but it has only recently done this to the battery Please help me!
