Why wont BMW import MG's to the US
I know that they still have MG's in europe and england, and that BMW now owns MG, so how come they dont import them to the states, because the new MGF looks SWEET! I saw an ad for one

I know for a fact BMW owns MG and the main reason they dont want to import them to the US is because the MGF is a cheaper and better car than the Z3 and if they brought those here, NOBODY would buy the Z3. I used to own a 73 MGB-GT. Dont think I am incompetent because I now own a Honda Civic.

Melt,
You need to keep up with the times! BMW used to own the Rover group (including Rover, MG, Mini & Land Rover) but sold the Rover and MG group to a venture capitalist group a couple of years back for a nominal fee bacuase it was costing BMW millions of pounds to keep it going. they decided to keep the Mini and Land Rover ws sold to Ford. check this out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/bus...000/679169.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/bus...000/741701.stm http://www.netlondon.com/news/2000-1...7C9418802.html http://www.guardian.co.uk/Print/0,3858,3974693,00.html http://money.cnn.com/2000/03/17/europe/ford/ Date: 16/03/2000 BMW sells its British subsidiary Rover to venture capitalists, Alchemy German car giant BMW has announced it's to sell its British subsidiary, Rover, to London-based venture capitalists, Alchemy Partners. BMW's supervisory board recommended the move after a meeting in Munich on Thursday. Richard Zackheim reports. Negotiations have started between Alchemy and BMW for the sale of the Rover and MG car brands, as well as the factories that produce them in Birmingham in the English Midlands. BMW will retain the profitable Land Rover and Mini marques and the Cowley production plant in central southern England. BMW acquired Rover six years ago, but has never been able to make the brand profitable - in 1998, Rover made losses of 960 million dollars. Disposal of the company will cost BMW, 3 point 2 billion dollars. Motor analyst Ben Oliver. Cheers, Estoril. |
