71 Chevelle Malibu, Starts but doesnt shut off...

That Chevelle was sitting for a while before the starter died. I replaced the starter and it starts up fine. But when i turn the key to shut it off nothing happens, it just keeps running when im in the full off position. So i replaced the ignition switch and got the same result. Besides the whole ignition system what else could cause this?

Point or HEI Ignition or ??

It sounds like the small wire on the outside of the solinoid is touching the main pwr supply from the battery.

If this is a HEI ignition, that wire isnt needed.

Check to make sure that your main power on your starter is not touching one of the smaller wires....I did that once, had the same problem.
