Arrow Chopped49 (wip)

Well, I figured I'd start my first thread here on AF. I recently joined, but I'm not new to the hobby. I've been watching this forum for a long time, and finally decided to join up.

This is AMT's 49 Ford kit. I've chopped it, and shaved the door handels, trunk hinges, etc. Headlights are frenched. I haven't decided on engine, suspension or wheels yet. Let me know what you guys think.

Very cool. I've got that car in my closet awaiting a similar cut and a sinister paint job. I'm looking forward to seeing this thing get put together!

Re: Chopped49 (wip)

Thanx guys!!

Mark, I was kinda of thinking of a pearl tangarine or orange. I haven't completely decided yet though. It'll be a while before I get any paint on this. I've got another project I'm focusing on right now. Unfortunately I don't have a digicam, so I can't get any pics of that project. Hopefully I'll find another job soon so I can get myself a digicam.

Re: Chopped49 (wip)

Thanks guys. Anyone got any ideas for the grill? I've already used the parts that don't allow the stock grill. But I've had a hard time figureing out what to do. This is the part that's really holding this project up.

Re: Chopped49 (wip)

The grill on the 49 is really cool, you have to use it or modify it a little.. How custom did you want to go with this ride? What changes are holding you back from using the stock grill?

Re: Chopped49 (wip)

Well, I wanted to give it a more modern rod, clean look. The kit comes with two hoods, one alows for the large bullit surrounded by a circle at the center of the grill. The other is for the custom version, so it's just straight across. I also used the custom grill shell/roll pan. BUT, the custom grills that come with this kit aren't the look I'm going for. They have more of a 60s 70s custom look to them. I've been trying to figure out what to do to fill the space. I thought about just putting a chrome bar across the grill, but I wasn't sure if that would be ebough to fill that large opening. I would also have to figure something out for the turn signals, since they're housed in the grill on the stock grill. Or should I modify the stock grill and sink it in a little to help give it a cleaner look?

Maybe I should use the stock grill, kinda like this?

Re: Chopped49 (wip)

Man thats going to look good. I have a bag of chrome goodies, I think that one needs a big old toothy grill bar in the middle
