96 sunfire hard on fual

I have a 96 sunfire and it is hard as f**k on fual...honestly i dont know much about cars so im having a little trouble figureing it out on my own...so ne help would be nice

cheapest best way to start is putting a fuel system treatment that will most likely clean out any build up of dirt or anything (like gumont or lucas treatments) and, this happen to me, after using the treament my spark plugs got covered with dirt and needed to be changed, so if you notice any sputtering or hard acceleration its the sparkplugs, and change the air filter and use a higher grade gas cause 87 and 89 octane is dirty and crap and probably the fuel filter too, especially if has never been changed and if none of that works check he fuel pumps or injectors

seriously he's having problems with fuel eco. and your telling him to upgrade to 93?....that does nothing for fuel eco. it only helps very few times with performance and some engines require it because the compression is so high and without it the lower grades would detonate our engines don't require 93 so using 83 or 87 doesn't matter.....change the air filter......another thing is check the air pressure in your tires.....change the fuel filter.....if you want the cheapest fuel system cleaner that does work use Chevon thats what i use and my parents use....and we've never had a problem with the fuel injectors, rail or any of that.......like right now its 2.50 per gallon here....the cheapest is 2.30 (i think) so it works out that i'm paying 3 bucks extra to fill it up.....oh another easy way to save gas keep the right pedal from going to the floor lol good luck

ok well i know the tires are good...check them regularly...air filters good...just changed that...plus my car has a shift light(2000) so i always use that. Im thinking that changing the feul filter and using some injector cleaner will help.. but i mean my car is REALLY hard on gas and i dont think that just doing those would make the biggest difference...but im still gonna do it

i never thought before but my engine also has alot of km's over 320,000...would that be a reason as well?

A high mileage,low compression engine will produce less power and take more fuel to make the same power as before (foot is further into the pedal).Of course if its really bad,raw fuel is pouring past the rings down into the crankcase.Smell your dipstick for fuel smell.

okay dwb, i'm not telling this person to use 93 but 83 and 87 as your suggesting is really really cheep gas and i don't know how anyone could rely one such dirty cheap gas and yes it does make a difference, 89 is good but i prefer 90 i just thought they would like to know of something cheap and easy before spending possibly hundreds of dollars
