Noisy belt??

i have a new (surprised?) problem with 2001 5.9. After the engine warms up (slower idle) the belt squeaks. As soon as I touch the gas, the squeaking stops. I've tried STP belt spray lube which works for a few minutes and then the problem returns. Any ideas?

Re: Noisy belt??

I have a 99 Durango 5.2. I also have a noisy belt but mine squeaks on higher RPMs. Tried belt dressing (works temporarily) I replaced tensioner pulley cause old one was not springing back on its own. The sqeak is still there. My neighbor said to use a bar of soap on the serpentine belt wile it was running and it did take the noise away better than the belt dressing. After a few hours of driving it again came back squeaking. The belt is new. I need Help TOO!!!

Re: Noisy belt??

It's not clear to me that you have changed the belt. You should if you haven't already. They don't last forever & it's often hard to tell if they're worn. A squeal would be an indicator of a worn out belt.

If the belt breaks, the engine keeps running though you will get an overtemp indication as your water pump that cools your engine has stopped turning without the belt.

You will destroy your engine if you keep driving for even a few minutes.

Re: Noisy belt??

I Just found out today that my squeaky noise was from a technician who installed my power steering pulley too far in which missaligned my belt that was also causing it to wear out on one edge also. SQUEAK SOLVED!!!
