Security System Issue

My daughter has a 2000 SL2 on which the remote (new battery) will not unlock the doors. The alarm sounds when unlocking, locking or starting the car. It will turn off by the panic button upon locking/unlocking and by restarting after starting. Suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: Security System Issue

okay, got a little confused about the alarm going off by the panic button upon unlocking/locking. but my guess is the remote needs to be reprogrammed.

Re: Security System Issue

Ian,
Thanks for the reply. I was not too clear. The panic button turns off the alarm after unlocking (or locking) the door with the key. If the car is started, the horn sounds until you turn it off and back on again. It is then driveable.

oh ok, i get it now. but still not certain on this one. when the car starts up, the alarm should be disabled. do you know if its an aftermarket or factory alarm?
