Idoling at about 1600 rpms

just picked up a 1994 v4 camaro that is idoling at 1600 rpms and does about 2600 at 55. Unfortunately, there are not 456 gears in the car so something is definitely wrong lol. I drove the car home from virginia to ny, it ran fine but the rpms were just very high, it would not go into overdrive. Has this happened to anyone before and does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Idoling at about 1600 rpms

Um..mine does about 2500 at 55..so that couldn't be anything bad. The 1600 might be since they usually idle around 1k.
Did you check to make sure your thottle body wasn't stuck on anything?

there is no way the car should be doing 55mph at 2500 rpms when it has overdrive
