Stealth ES engine = RT engine?

I read that the Engine units for the Dodge Stealth ES/Base models (head, pistons, valves, and block to name a few) were the same ones that were used in the Twin Turbo engines, so I pose the following questions-
I know it's a bad idea to mod an engine without giving it the capability to handle the extra power, but if the ES/base model engine is basically the same as the Rt/TT engine, would it have about the same power tolerance?

Also, the TT has a Getrag 6 speed, and the ES a 5 speed, would there be severe power limitations on the Tranny, even if the engine could handle it?

This is a purely theoretical question, I'd rather just buy a TT. but feel free to answer away.

i wouldn't suggest it , since the TT does have a 6 speed manaul getrag , and is also AWD.. the power isn't all set on the Fwd system ..

the TT has 320hp.. so if you put at turbo into your ES could prolly handle 280 - 290 hp ?

don't take my word on this.. cause i don't own a stealth YET.. i getting one soon tho in like 2 months

There are three types of motors.

The SOHC which was standard in the base and on some ES
The DOHC which came with most ESs and standard on the RT
The TT DOHC which only came on the RT/TT

The DOHC has around 10.5 compression where the TT version only has 8.8 or so. I have seen guys with RT/ES models put a single turbo on there cars for extra power. The RT/TT model cqame with a 5 speed for three years until switching to a 6 speed, this switch came the same year as the headlights went from flip-ups to projector beams.

Hope this helps somewhat.

for more info check this site out....

that site is by far the best site I have found for info for my car

sohc is a base.
there are no es that have a sohc, they are all dohc.

dohc has 10:1 compression, the tt has 8:1.

i have heard of only one single turbo conversion completed, and have yet to see it.

numerous dohc na motors have been upgraded to tt in a number of different ways (changing compression, staying with low boost levels, etc.) check www.3si.org for a ton of info.

the fwd doesn't really seem to have too many issues with the power, although i would recommend replacing your differential.

hope this helps, safe travels.

sorry, the original question:

yes the 6g72 block is basically the same. the crank in the na was cast from 91-93, then went forged for 94-96, whereas the tt crank was always forged. there are some block differences, for instance earlier tt models had girdles on the crank and then went to a 4 block main while the na always had a 2 bolt with no girdles. pistons are all forged. heads are slightly different but will work regardless.
