Question The return of the SVS

Well thought I had this one beat on my 99 GT, but I was wrong.

Though, the other day I did get the Svs light out by replacing a few relays and repairing plug in's that were bad.

So now I hav got two new codes showing, the PO440, which is Evap emission control system malfunction. Checked out the evap canister and all acording hoses and wiring(outside the fuel tank), havnt checked the fuel pressure switch in the tank.

But the other code P1610, which is the serial data communication failure with body function controler, havnt the slightest what that means I was thinking maybe some other plugs were damaged or undone but i

I replaced the gas cap right off, mainly because it was stuck on and I had to break it to remove it. But the P0440 still remained.
I hav hand tested just every thing in the engine bay with a ohms/volt meter, every thing seems to be working well with in thier tolerances/perameters as specified in the manuals. The cabin area would be my next spot I investigate, and triple check all my relays and fuses again.

I'd Really apreciate you input on this, I personally havnt seen this second code, P1610 before.

Thankx in advance! XI

Re: The return of the SVS

Oh I dont think its broken(yet), it was like this when I bought it I'm sure of that !

And I wont blow myself up, though the car just might

Thought I had the problems solved but I didnt, only made the real troubles appear.

Hav goten some insight from others though, and I should get it fixed as soon as I get some free time this week.
But I doubt It'll be anytime soon, I seen the weathers turning to crap, so thiers bound to be some fender benders, and that means work for Me

Found other info on Mitchell online, and it also says--- loss of Platform Zone Module(PZM) serial data on the P1610 .... hum, thats a new one.

Re: The return of the SVS

Just to up date, I havnt torn into the GT yet. Main reason being to busy, but I did get the Warrenty repair history(2 pages) today and it been a good car.
Well good untill 10/05, when a BCM was put in and then set till I bought it.
The only other repairs were in 2000 -- #L0260- hoses, fuel and evap emission control, which is bad again thier are comments checked but I didnt get that part of the history(yet).

I already knew the PCM and BCM had been acessed, by the way the kick panels screws looked (paint chiped off screws).
So I'm thinking after the BCM was installed, they didnt do something right, or the SVS light would be out . Going to call that dealershit and get the low down.
I should hav it fixed by week end, wish me luck!

Re: The return of the SVS

BCM plug had bent prongs not making full contact, imagine that.
Called Dealer I bought the car from and they said after they installed the BCM they couldnt figure out what was wrong.... Dont take your cars there to get fixed!

Good job Xero. I knew you'd figure it out. I'm glad we bought our Alero new otherwise who knows what bag of worms we would have. The dealer here couldn't do anything right during warranty repairs. I fired him.

Good luck!

Re: The return of the SVS

Ya Bob, some monkey was screwing with all sorts of stuff.
The Pcm cables were loose too, someone was in a hurry when they installed the Bcm thats for sure

In fact the cluster comes out tomarrow because I knoticed the cruise light isnt coming on when it should , luckily I hav another cluster for parts, betting something else is unpluged or loose, god who knows At least The chime and lights gone!

Warnty Repair history helped narrow i down to the BCM , and you did too, Thanks Bob!

At least you've got it under control. Good job!

Question for you my brother has a '01 GA GT. He was thinking of getting a DHP PCM for it and other mods. Where exactly is the PCM located? DHP said it was under the passenger side of the dash towards the firewall?? Thanks.

Well, its under the kick panel just left of the steering colum on the 99-00s.
Its big and white(could be off white or grey), cant miss it with all the wires runnig to it.

01's may hav moved it to the passenger side, but I dont think thiers room over there.
The BCm is on that side in the 99-00s.

I would caution against static electricity, it'll toast the Pcm instantly, and thats no good

Re: The return of the SVS

The GM computer picture is horrible, but it appears to be under the dash on the drivers side on a swing out bracket. Hopefully Xero verifies it.

Re: The return of the SVS

yes it does swing out when you loosen the 2 screws in the middle holding it in place.
Once the kick panels removed its on the left side, you cant miss it.

Thanks Xero. He found it. Might help to look on the right side of the dash. DHP needs to get their act together if they want to sell more PCMs.

BTW- You are aware that DHP dropped the cost of a re-programmed PCM to $99.00.

Re: The return of the SVS

No, I havnt seen the prices of the DHPs latly.

I'm not a real big fan of DHP , thats why my friends and I done a PC hack on a GT chip instead. It was a Nigthmare the first couple days, but the SE runs Great!(better than any GT)
Alot more control over everything, but it is more expensive(ie- computer/cables/software) , and with out loosing MPG.

I did just buy a used RSM supercharger kit from a friend and it came with the DHP chipset. I got a steal(less than half the cost) on the SC so I cant complain

Glad to be of service Bob!

Problem is DHP is like the only candy store in town. At least they have something readily available. Cost is hard to pass up. The PCM is being shipped out tomorrow. We'll see how it works out. If it does I might get one for the Alero. I recenty installed polished and ported upper and lower intakes from APOC and a RSM Racing 62mm throttle body in the Alero. What a difference in performance. Installed a Magnaflow hi-flow CAT and CAI last year. I might consider exhaust plumbing mods from the downpipe to the CAT input by taking the pipe OD to 2.5". Headers would probably be the last mod for the time being. We'll see how it works out.

Re: The return of the SVS

Forgot. Here's a pic of the Alero. It's a '02 GL2 (3.4L V6) which has the same suspension and tires as the GA GT. Stock 16" wheels with Goodyear Eagle RSA 225-50/16 and fully loaded.
