Cause of crankwalk.......

Okay, so I was talking to my uncle(car guy) today and of course I brought up my dsm. He told me that his neighbor has a dsm and it crankwalked. He said that he heard it was because of the oil squirters(I heard that too) but, he talked to a mechanic and the guy told him that the cause is a performance clutch. The guy said that a performance clutch puts too much pressure on the thrust bearing. Does that make any sense or this this "mechanic" talking out of his... well you know.

Re: Cause of crankwalk.......

that is true it has beens stated on here before that if u have a 7 bolt engine its not wise to get a very high preassure clutch.

Re: Cause of crankwalk.......

No one knows 100% what causes it, but all the extra load of a hi perf pressure plate will definitely finish it off.

If he said that is the ONLY reason why, then kick him in the nuts, it's a combination of things.

Re: Cause of crankwalk.......

All this shit has been discussed thousands of times already. Killer7 do a search using 95 GSXracer (Kevin) and you will come up with something. Here is one linky linky

Re: Cause of crankwalk.......

I've heard (and tend to believe) that is insufficient oil to the thrust bearing. I've also heard that the oil squirters get stuck open and theres not enough oil for the thrust bearing.

Re: Cause of crankwalk.......

Would replacing the crankshaft with a high performance one or forged one prevent it from crankwalking. I was looking at a tutbo engine and the guy said that the crank was replaced by the dealer and he had all the paperwork. But I am curious if it will really prevent crankwalking if you change the crankshaft.

Re: Cause of crankwalk.......

HAHA gone for like 6+ months and we still got the CRANKWALK QUESTION

Killer7 there is a plug near the back of the clutch pedal...just unclip it and you wont have to engage the clutch to start the car...did it to my car a year ago.

Re: Cause of crankwalk.......

The only known "For Sure" cure for crank walk is a 6bolt block and crank. A new crank won't prevent it, people have tried all kinds of tricks and nothing is definitive because if it doesn't happen thats not a sure sign it worked cause it doesn't happen on all cars.

Re: Cause of crankwalk.......

I personally believe it was a bad mold at the dsm factory. I've read all the threads on this, and that's what I'm going with.
