Hi All.... New Here and to 3000 GT's

Hello Everybody.

I just wanted to say hi and let it be known there is a new member. We recently sold our 98 Prelude (Damn Automatic Trans) and purchased this 99 3000 GT SL, So far we've been real pleased with it. I was also able to purchase a 36/36,000 Mitsubishi Warrenty with the sale so that added some extra comfort.

We found this 1999 5 speed SL with 39,900 miles on it

So just as a warning. Be prepaired for some stupid questions if I can find the answer using the "Search" LOL

This is basically our daughters car (16 ¾ year old) but I'll drive it 40% of the time too. She don't want to leave it parked at school when she has sporting events to deal with after school, so we'll trade off my truck on those days LOL. This is an early Graduation present beings the Honda crapped out sooner then we expected.

It's pretty much stock as you can see, but it's very clean, so no plans for any upgrades in the very near future. It just needs some Tires now due to whoever owned it before didn't drive it much and/or didn't treat the tires whiles in storage. (sidewall cracks). So now the search begins for tires. I'm sorta leaning to the Kumho ECSTA ASX's due to living in Missouri and our winters and rains. Anyone have any other options for all season tires?

Anyway I look forward to learning from everyones post and making some new friends as well.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you found a great car. So wat upgrades do you plan on getting??? Personally i believe the rims should be the first upgrade, but thats me. I have no idea on wat tires would be the best tho.

Hi and Ty for the welcome compaqpunch
Well yes I agree on the Wheel upgrade. Beings I just sold the OEM Prelude kit today I got some $ to play with now. so I may look for some wheels & tires. I'm just not sure about upsizing to 18's yet or not. only because of the huge wheel well gap on these cars. I don't think it would look as good without a drop. But I'm in a position atm to make a choice.

Future upgrades would be simple cosmetic mods. Maybe like a Eibach Pro Kit, Kyb's, wheels & tires. We've only had the car for a week so I'm still researching all mods

How bad is camber when lowering these GT's? I know I can do a search but what are most using for a lowering spring/strut setup?

Thanks again.

Re: Hi All.... New Here and to 3000 GT's

Well, you laready have the 99' front end, so thats good. Another mod would be the 99' VR4 wing, larger injectors, and TT conversion. :-D

Also, welcome to the boards.

Re: Hi All.... New Here and to 3000 GT's

Well with regards to those tires you mentioned (Kumho ASX's) I just got those for my car and mounted on Friday. I could immediately tell a difference, as the road noise was ALOT less, and it was very smooth. I definitely would choose those tires, they are great!

Welcome to the board and we look forwards to seeing more of you.

^I've heard good things about those, and about the falken all seasons. The rims look fine IMO, the best upgrade you can do for an n/a (besides a TT swap) is a set of headers. They'll run ya about 600 I think but they're good for like 20 HP (not sure if that's wheel or crank). If you want some cheaper stuff, hook it up with an intake, custom exhaust, mufflers, and a high flow cat

Re: Hi All.... New Here and to 3000 GT's

Thank you for the welcome and suggestions/comments guys.

It looks like for now I'll just be getting tires (Thanks for the review Gateway) due to mother nature on the wife's car. :/

Last week we had Golf Ball size hail come through and her 97 Grand Prix had to sit out in it. No broken glass but imagine taking a ball peen hammer and well tapping away all over the hood, roof & trunk.

To make a long story short. We had it appraised today and they totaled it.
They offered us...
- $4,500 and they take the car.
- $2,400 and we keep it but they'd put a salvage title on it and only allow liability ins on it.

I have until 3:00pm tomorrow to let them know our choice. Sheesh!!!!!

So I'm either going to have to buy another car for her or just keep it with the salvage title and stash the $ for a future purchase. At least it's a white car and the damage don't stand out as bad as if it were say black.

Hey!!! I can keep the salvage car and use the $ for MODS eh? LMAO
I don't think the wife would like that very much. lol

Anyway I'll keep you all informed with upgrades as they happen

Re: Hi All.... New Here and to 3000 GT's

Had the same problem in louisiana with my 96 Prelude that I had given my daughter, with the hail damage. I took the cash and car and went to this paintless dent removal service and got all the damage out for $1000 and kept $3k. Being that I only paid $400 for the car because of a computer problem the former owner did not know about Ebay or used the net. He had bought car for daughter but she ran off with her boyfriens and he wanted it gone. Had paint issues but my buddy painted it for just the supplies. I just got a 98 Sl 3 weeks ago wish it was a 99 but I love it anyway. Welcome to the forum, if you decide to get new rims let me know,I will buy your stock ones. Where in Missouri do you live/ My daughter who just turned 18 on Val.day lived in Warrenton outside St Louis, for 5yrs, just moved to Shreveport, but her grand parents are still in Mo. Later,Gary

Re: Hi All.... New Here and to 3000 GT's

Welcome to AF, hope you like it. And congrats on the SL. I suggest to all new members/owners that they read the FAQ. Alot of time was put into making it as comprehensive as possible.

"When you lower your car, it's pretty much a given that the rear wheels will have negative camber as the settings are almost maxed out with stock springs. 3SX has designed adjustable arms for both camber and toe settings. Our research found that if you get the camber back into perfect spec, it gets the toe a little out of spec. So we offer control arms for both! Now you can get your car's rear alignment into perfect spec, which will get rid of the angled-in wheel look, and prevent expedited uneven tire wear.

PRICES REDUCED!!!
NA Adjustable Camber Arms: $229.95 pair
NA Adjustable Toe Arms: $209.95 pair
NA Adjustable Control Arms Set (Camber & Toe): $399.95 - Save $40!"

Thanks for the info Igovert500 & Yes I've been reading the FAQ.
Your right it's VERY Informative. Great Job on it. I know how much time and work is involved in doing so, having been involved with some forums in the past. *Hats Off* to all who have worked on the FAQ section.

Hey sfc711
Sounds like you made out great on your hail situation. As for the wheels if and when we replace them, I'll give you first dibs. Don't hold your breath for anytime soon though.

We're located right about in the middle of MO, more on the KC Side. (Warrensburg) Small town living POP 20,000. So finding cars locally can be a tedious task if even possible, with that mentioned. We looked around today for a replacement car that had the hail damage and opted just to take the $2,400, Keep the car with salvage title. We're looking at it this way..

KBB Retail = $4,400
KBB PP (excl) = $3,325
KBB Trade (excl) = $2,050

We basically got a payoff better then trade in and more at the bottom end of private party and got to keep the car. We'll take our time finding a replacement then sell or trade the car in. If we get $1,000+ we'll be at total payout of $3,400+ which isn't to bad all and all.

Out of the 20 cars appraised today, 17 of them got totaled by the Ins. Fortunately for us the car was paid for and we had ZERO Comp, others still had loans, no "GAP INS" on their cars and were devastated on what to do. So we can't complain to much, many others are far worse off then what we were.

All I can say is Hail can really screw up everything. Protect Your Cars!!!! if you can, to avoid the situation that we just went through.

Tzer

Re: Hi All.... New Here and to 3000 GT's

Usually NA's dont have to get control arms for just lowering springs. However if you go with GC coilovers and want to go pretty low then they are a must,

We need some 3S in Nebraska. I swear there are next to none here. I have 1 of 4 3s in a town of 24k people. Anyone on here from or near Nebraska?
