Question Crankshaft bolt removal

Can anyone tell me how to get the crankshaft pulley wedged so I can get the bolt off? I am replacing the timing guides etc. and I just can't seem to budge the bolt!!! I have been without my truck since Oct. (a shop told me I needed a $2000.00 engine rebuild job!) I figured I couldn't mess anything up....so I dropped the oil pan....found plastic...so it is more like a $200.00 job....I finally have my parts and am anxious to get the job done. My 13 year old grandson helped break loose the cam bolt. Can someone help me out Thank you so much. Maggie

Re: Crankshaft bolt removal

Remove spark plug and feed a length of rope into the cylinder. This will jam the piston against the head, locking up the motor.
Turn motor to where the piston is just before TDC and the valves are closed (compression stroke). Feed rope into the cylinder, filling cylinder, making sure to leave a few inches out of the spark plug hole. Use a type of rope that won't leave any debri when you remove it. Turn the motor so the cylinder tries to go to TDC, locking up the motor. To remove rope, turn motor in the opposite direction enough so the rope can be pulled out easily.
