how to replace the damn spark plugs.

ok i bought some new Iridium IX spark plugs from the brand NGK. they were like 7 bucks a piece. i go to put them in and i cant believe how fucked up it is to put these in. i think the mai reason they are so hard is because i have edelbrock long tube headers. the prob is. the headers are like a bunch of tubes and they completely surround the spark plugs so i cant get my hands in there. if anyone knows of any way or an easy way to get in there. the hardest side that i cant get any on is the passenger side. it seems to be the hardest i have 3 of the 4 on the dirvers side. i just cant get to the second to last on the far end of the engine on the drivers side

vince

P.S. if you would like some pictures of the setup please say so i dont know how to put pictures up on here. sorry guys.

LS1??

Remove the coilpacks. Gives you a little more room.
I have gotten it down to a mini-project at right around an hour for a set of 8 plugs.

no no no no no. Do NOT remove the coil packs...you're such a wimp Luos.

Get a 3/8 rachet, a crows foot and the 5/8s spark plug socket.

1. Pull the wire off the plug wire.
2. put the socket on the plug.
3. attach crows foot to rachet.
4. attach crows foot to the socket.
5. make sure you're going to LOOSEN the plug not tighten.
6. "break the plug loose".
7. take rachet/crows foot off and take the plug by hand.

NOTE: #8 cylinder is easier from the bottom

Re: how to replace the damn spark plugs.

We did a friend of mines LT1 plugs. Took us rookies about 3 hours.

We ended up having to lift the passenger side of the motor with the mount off to get to them all.
Good luck!

Re: how to replace the damn spark plugs.

yeah it took me about 3-4 hours first time on my LT1, but i never had to jack the motor up, just put my hands and arms in some really awkward postitons. I thought the worst part part about it was trying to route all the plug wires the way they had it. eventually said screw it and rerouted them my way.

Re: how to replace the damn spark plugs.

I hope you checked the gap on those plugs ,I just removed mine yesterday and regaped them . The parts store PC said DO NOT GAP . But it did not run the way I expected . After doing it the first time (3+) hours . I was able to do it the second time in about 45 Min . Once I get up on top of the engine with knee pads on . Header on the LT1 make things really bad . Rob

Re: how to replace the damn spark plugs.

I have only driven it 2 days with the correct gap , but I can tell what it was missing last week . I drove tonight in the rain and lost traction and started to drift in third gear . I am not used to that . It has rained all day , not like it just started and the oil is on the surface . I now feel the NGK Irridiums were worth it ($7/each) . After 6 years , It still surprises me sometimes .Rob

Re: how to replace the damn spark plugs.

DarkblueTA , whats a crows foot ? I used a crow bar to help get the boots off the first time . They were glued on . on the LS1 , I used a 3/8 " rachet , swivel(u-joint) and a 3" extension on a couple of them . Rob
