2005 Passat Alarm System Disabling
Have a 2005 Passat and the alarm dings for seat belts, open doors, trunk open, light left on, misc outside temperature changes, etc, etc. It is driving me crazy.
I know that the dinger mechanism is buried in the sterring column and nothing on the fuse box disables it. Has anyone found a decent electrical schematic for the 2005 they can steer me to? If cut, does the wiring to the seat belt recepticle fail short (constant ding) or open (never a ding)? We all know enough to use our seat belts without Big Brother dinging us to the insane assylum. Thanks

Re: 2005 Passat Alarm System Disabling
The Ross-Tech factory service manuals have fairly complete schematics.
But they are not laid out like typical US made electrical schematics. They have proprietary symbols and pages that link to other pages with numeric links so finding what you need does not come quickly, or at all in some cases since much of it is controlled by software anyway. Anything to do with safety just as alarms and set belts tends to be non-adjustable. A GM factory service manual may fill 3 large volumes but it all makes sense, is very complete, and is easy to follow. The Ross-Tech books contain "selected" items only as it says in the front of the book. They contain about 50% of what a real set of GM factory service manuals would have. I have a 2005 Passat GLX Wagon with 3000 miles on it and I asked the local dealer about the alarm and various other bells, alarms, self locking doors, and the other silly features. They were able to fix a few of the annoyances like getting all the doors to unlock together (except the rear hatch won't go). But, they said the alarm is integral to the main computer and can't be disabled. And the seat belt chime, cold weather chime (at 39 degrees?), door open chime, etc can't be disabled. I may experiment with the seat belt chime. It's either a normally closed or open switch. Perhaps set it so it thinks the belt is buckled. The dealer also can't fix these design features: Drivers side power door locks that only lock 3 doors. worthless. If you need to lock the door in the rain, you have to get out and use your key in the outer lock or use the remote while you have your hands full of groceries. The power door lock has no purpose since it won't lock the car unless you're in it with the door shut, and then it locks itself under various conditions anyway (like when you don't get in fast enough after unlocking it). Mine also has the wide, race-kid 225 R45, 17" racing slicks on it that are completely worthless in the rain or snow that we have up North half the time. I was amazed how lousy the tire-wheel combination is for traction, I've truly never seen anything like it. 15" Wheels would be correct for this size and weight of a vehicle. I put the vehicle into storage until spring since I'm not ready to buy a 2nd set of wheels and tires. The 17's are also able to amplify even the smallest road imperfection into a sharp thump that a normal car would glide over without a sound. Good luck with the alarm. I suggest reading through a service manual somewhere. It's quite amazing how complicated a simple repair is on a 2005 Passat. Removing the front of the car, the exhaust system, motor mounts, etc for a simple repair. Good thing it has a good warranty on it and the dealer has been excellent about getting things done and providing loaner cars as needed. Last edited by Mr_D; 04-05-2007 at 01:47 PM. |
