I have a ford bronco II eddie bauer edition. i was told my transmission was failing because it could not go on reverse. the day it messed up i was driving and drove over a hole on the road and then the car shook a lot. then i steped on the gas and the car accelerated normaly. i drove home and when i tried to park i would not go on reverse. its automatic and its 2WD. i put the stick on reverse and step on the gas and it just wont move at all. i put it on neutral and i tried pushing it and it would not budge and inch. so i can turn it on and go forward and all but it wont go backwards. what can be wrong with my bronco? do i need a all new transmission or can a repair kit fix it or what?

Re: Transmission failing
mmm...I would get under the thing and make sure the shift linkage is correct first.

Re: Transmission failing
You're best bet is to have it rebuilt. you can check the fluid condition by smelling the dipstick and seeing if it smells burnt. If you're into the backyard stuff, I'd start with a new filter and gasket, maybe a servo pump (or vacuum valve.)
A good rebuild (from an AT shop) would run about $800. I'd get a good rebuild kit, and have a shop do it. Call around and see what the local boys say. |

Re: Transmission failing
Try the basic way first, Check fluid level and condition, if this does not help drop the pan (carefully because you need to check for any metal shavings) and hopefully everything is good there, I joined this forum for help in my trans, but a cheap thing if the ATF looke good is to change the filter and oil (do not forget the O-ring, some kits do not provide)
Good luck |
