99.5 Jetta GL sputter and stall w/restart

I recently purchased a 99.5 Jetta GL 2.0 w/manual trans and 68,000 miles. I was provided all records by original owner indicating all scheduled maintenace was performed by VW. PROBLEM: Car sputters and dies randomly after it gets up to temp. Problem is random. Sometimes it dies at highway speeds, sometimes at a stop light. I get no CEL. The car will restart immediatly, however will continue to sputter and try to die. Records indicate MAF was replaced last year. ANY IDEAS??

spray water on the coil pack and spark plug wires... if the car dies replace them
