Power window problem 2000 Sierra

Does anyone know if you can buy the cable which controls the up and down of the window. The one that winds into the motor. It broke last week and I finally took the panel off to see what the problem was. I couldn't drive in the cold any longer Also, does anyone have info, pictures, other links, etc on how the cable is to be put in. It will no doubt snake around some hard to reach areas so a little help would go a long way.

Thanks

You have to buy the whole thing, most autoparts stores do sell it and you do not have to go to the dealer for the part.

Re: Power window problem 2000 Sierra

I'm not sure how you are planning on doing it, but the tracks are easily removed. When you buy a replacement, it will have the guides, tracks and cable all assembled and it's not that hard to put in.

One problem I run into was that the guides were going too far up the track and hanging at the top. I solved the problem by cutting two pieces of hard plastic about the size of 1/4" keystock and placed it in the groove beneath the glass. This raised the glass 1/4" and kept it from running off the tracks at the top.

I hope that made sense. If not I will explain it further.

Thanks for the help. What would be a good price for the unit or a good place to find it cheap. Would a wrecker sell it cheap? Just curious as I would like to spend as little as possible.

Question Re: Power window problem 2000 Sierra

How do you get the interior door pannel off? My power window just went down tonight and it wont go back up. The motor will run but the window must have come disconnected. I removed the triangle piece by the mirror, it just pops off. I lifted the controll pannel and removed the one screw by the handle, and the one at the bottom of the door pannel, but it is still firmly attached. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Its suposed to rain in a couple of days.

Check out your local Chevy dealer. They usually have the window regulators in stock for those trucks. Theyre also usually not a whole lot more expensive than aftermarket for a genuine GM replacement. Just to make sure check with NAPA or CarQuest.
Stay away from a used part, most of the time theyre not much better than what you got now. Ive been burned too many times trying to save money. Its always worse in the end.

Thanks, I did just that. NAPA, (Not All Parts Available), had to order the regulator, two to three days, not bad, but the GMC dealer in the next town had one in stock for a few dollars more, worth the extra drive and $, Truck is now fixed and works great. Suggest spraying some extra white lithium grease along the length of the cables, particularly near the entrance and exit of the guide tubes. Thats where mine broke, looks like from rust, might get some extra milage out of it.
