Poping up front

I first noticed this problem a few months ago when it wasnt very aparent or frequent. It has no gotten MUCH worse. Everytime I turn the whell a lot or go over a bump I hear this really loud pop front the front end. It is loud enough that even my mother noticed it when she was in the car. I've had it looked at by a suspension specialist and they cant find anything wrong doing the normal tests (checking to see if any of the bushing have slop or the wheel bearings. I would get under the car and try to listen for it from under there while someone turns the wheel but my car is too low and its hard enough to get a jack under there let alone my body (its has a Eibach pro kit on it). Ive inspected the sorings as best I could without taking them off the car and I cant find anything. The rack and pinion is good, full of fluid and all tight. I am REALLY stumped! I would REALLY appreciate ANY input. Thanks in advance fellas.

Re: Poping up front

ok now i had the same problem and i thought it was coming from under the hood also, but actually it was coming from the rear it sounded like something was pounding really hard, anyway check the rear sway-bar linkage, it cost me 30 bux at autozone, and my advice would be to change both cuz i replaced my passenger then the driver side went out about 2 weeks later!!

If the noise is coming from the front, and its a hard popping sound I would say Ball Joints or Swaybar Links ..... if its more of a sweak, its a bushing. My SC is lowered too, I have to run it up on Ramps to get under it!!!!

Re: Poping up front

I have checked the sway bar endlinks and the ball joints and they are fine. I have even had them checked my a professional. Where in the world are the strut rod bushings? i have never heard of that exact teminalogy. How do I check those? It seems to be getting worse too.

Re: Poping up front

The strut rod bushings are the ones on the round bar that comes back from the control arm. They kind of look like radius arm bushings, if you're familir with those.

Re: Poping up front

My 93 had a similar problem, it started off as a slight popping noise, then as it progressed, it became more like a creaking noise, everytime I turned or went over a bump. The problem was the lower ball joint. eventually, it popped out while I was driving and so I had to replace it, these are sealed units without grease nipples, so when it is dry, thers nothing you can do except replace it. You will likely need to buy the ball joint as a complete unit within the lower control arm, otherwise you will have to buy the individual parts and have a machine shop press in the new ball joint. hope this helps!

Re: Poping up front

Ive checked the lower ball joint and they look fine and greased. It hasnt changed to a creak at all its still a really hard poping sound.

I checked the strut rod bushing (at least what I believe is the strut rod bushing) but the rubber looks good. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for?

Re: Poping up front

Any play in them is what you're looking for, if you can get someone to watch while you move the car or vice versa, watch to see if the front wheel moves in ways it shouldn't when stopping.
