Brake switch connector wire

Hello everyone I'm new here!!
I'm happy I found this forum.

I have a question. We have a 1998 taurus. The other day the car was stuck in park and could not change gears. I found out about the brake switch and went to check it, what I discover to be the cause of the problem is that one of the wires that goes to the plug that connects to the switch broke off of the plug. Had that happen at a different section of the wire I would have just stripped it and use some sort of connector. My questions are, is it difficult to replace that plug with the wires (not the switch)? Where do the wires from the plug go connected to. And do they sell that part?

Thanks for anyhelp everyone. And I hope the questions were clear.

Chris

Re: Brake switch connector wire

Welcome!

Do you trust your soldering abilities? If so, you should be able to remove the terminal from the plug and carefully solder the broken piece of wire to the terminal, bend the retainer tab back, and reinsert the terminal into the plug.

Depending on how much slack is in the wire, you may want to add a pigtail onto the broken wire. If you are concerned about having strain relief, you could pot the terminal opening with 5-minute epoxy, but you'd want to be very careful not to let the epoxy flow into the contact portion of the terminal/plug.

Another option would be to run to a salvage yard and cut a length of wire and the plug off a donor car. You should have no troubles finding a donor Taurus/Sable/Windstar locally.

I'd have to check my wiring diagrams (at home) to determine where exactly the wires go.
