got a few issues

ok so i got a 96 contour 2.0 5 speed off my cousin since he blew the motor. i figured i would rebuild it but the head bolts were seized from the heat. i dropped in a 95 motor in it. it wouldnt start, so i diagnosed it as much as possible and found everything was in check, so it was beyond my diagnosing. ford garage had it and gave me bullshit on the problem. the also pulled the motor twice because the throw out bearing was supposedly bad but wouldnt contact me about it. 2 weeks they had it and i never did get a call, i had to constantly go check on it. so finally i get it and they had so many things screwed up. i had to fix about 20 problems they made, including several loose bolts, speedo not working, blown fuses, egr not hooked up, and so on. i fixed the mistakes in 3 hours. then i come to find they swapped parts off the car.

after all that i drive it and find it wont shift into 5th unless you pick up on the reverse lock out, which wasnt an issue before it left my house. so im wondering about the shift box on the underside, could that be the issue thats all i can come up with. now the next problems im sure were issues i was going to find........

it keeps throwing a code for lean exhaust, so i have replaced the o2 sensors(ac delco since motorcraft wouldnt show a rear one!), fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, and i dont know what else. all im left with is the fuel pump. i tested fuel pressure going down the road. once i start to push in on the throttle, pressure drops which brought me to the regulator or the pump. fuel pressure was also about 5psi low at idle.

now for the clutch chattering. im about 100% sure its the mounts causing this. another reason why im so sure, is because if i dump the clutch pushing it hard, then it dives hard stumbles a bit and then goes. i went around checking for the front mount and found it but when i check for a rear mount, everywhere it says that autos only had a rear mount? now what the hell is up? unless the contour has this *special* auto that requires a clutch and you having to shift gears, then im blown away (sarcasm). i need both front and rear mounts, i think the others are fine.

ive been through hell with this, and was a huge mistake to hand it over to ford because they made so many mistakes, im at a loss for words. they replaced wrong parts, swapped parts, put the wrong things in it, removed parts, and god knows what else. i should have spent the money on good diagnostic equipment, so i wouldnt have to rely on another place to do advanced diagnostic work needing certain tools/machines. but if you can help me and say that im on the right track then good.

also anybody know about running a walbro fuel pump on it? i dont need a high flow or nothing, but though for the price just get like a 190lph since its cheaper but still good.

Re: got a few issues

95 motor is OBD1, 96 is OBD2.. that why your having problems...

Re: got a few issues

well im running all the obd2. everything off the 95 hooked right up but i had to swap the knock sensor i do believe. its dealing with the fuel, and its got to be the pump since pressure drops and i fixed everything else. i wont throw that code most of the time, its running a cycle. but if i bring the rpms up, itll normally throw it. need to get a tach on the thing, have no idea the rpms i go sometimes.

Re: got a few issues

ok so now about the 5th gear thing, am i right about the *box* on the underside of the car causing the 5th gear lock out? it acts just like trying to get into reverse to get into 5th.

and the mounts too, did the manual come with a rear trans mount? im trying to figure out why they say only autos had a rear mount yet i have one.
