Question Torque Wrenches?????

So I just broke the father-in-laws 1/2" drive torque wrench. He's had it since 1961 so he needed a new one anyway

Well now I know what to get him for Fathers' Day. Who makes a good one for less than $200.

Re: Torque Wrenches?????

I got my Craftsman Torque Wrench for $65 on sale, and it's the kind that clicks. That broken torque wrench will be good as a breaker bar.

Re: Torque Wrenches?????

How do you break a torque wrench? I mean, i can understand smacking it around and messing up calibration, or setting it too high or low from the limits, but breaking it? You must have had some Chuck Norris sized torque on that thing. Unless the gears just stripped out

Re: Torque Wrenches?????

For general car wrenching, spenind over $80 is too much. The above brands mentioned are all good tool companies. You don't need the precision of 1/1000 of a ft. lb. for a car [which is what the $200-700 wrenches offer, in that they are super precise].

But that is for super close tolerance machinery, and no car yet needs that precise torque, lol.

I agree with the first two, but stanley doesn't do it for me. Anything you can buy at wal-mart or k-mart doesn't fly in my book
