2002 Headlight Assembly

I changed my headlight to the silverstar lights and now one of the light assembly has moisture in it. Has anyone heard that there might be nitrogen gas in there to prevent moisture and to install new light with the face down to keep the gas in the lens??

Re: 2002 Headlight Assembly

I have a 02 and have also put in the Silverstars. I have them in for over a year now and there is no moisture in my headlights.
It is true that there is nitrogen in there and to keep lens pointing down, but I don't know if it is for moisture.
If you have moisture in only one housing, there is probably a sealing problem somewhere.
How do you like the Silverstars? I actually don't like them because to me they actually seem darker. The problem I think is that the headlights are too low in terms of wattage. I will try the xtravision next.

I don't know if the 2002 are any different then my 98, but the 98 are not a sealed housing. You should be able to remove the lens housing, then remove the bulb. Let it air dry for a while. A small fan or hair dryer may help speed up the problem.

The lens housing is known to leak around the seals. Eventually the glue will let loose completely and the cover will fall off.

The lens had no moisture before i replaced the headlights it just seems odd that it happened right after i replaced them and only one side so i have a buddy that was able to get me a tank of nitrogen i just dried out the lens and put some nitrogen in there and i'll see how it works.

Re: 2002 Headlight Assembly

Our used 2000 had so much moisture in them it diffused the head light beam and couldn't see very far down the road at all. A mechanic said bore a half inch hole on the inside near the bottom and the moisture would dry up, I did and the moisture went away.

The outside of the lens had some kind of orange & yellowish looking scale on them that wouldn't wash off, so I followed a guys directions on how to clean it off and looks pretty good now but head light beams still not all that strong. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/672754/21

Don't use it much for night driving but if I did I'd replace both headlight assemblies. Out of curosity, I searched the web and found economical ones ran $80. each and no problem to install them myself.

Re: 2002 Headlight Assembly

Per the factory shop manual, the lens are filled with Nitrogen from the factory. When you remove the headlamp assembly to replace the bulb, they tell you to minimize the time the bulb is out of the housing, and to hold it lens down to prevent the Nitrogen from coming out.....they don't say why, but I'd suspect it is to prevent moisture since that is a common complaint that will bring a new vehicle back to the shop.....just my guess...Glen
