Hypertech Power tUner 3

Hi, i'm not familiar with this device. But it says that it can maximize performance by just downloading new data to the onboard jeep computer. Also says that it makes transmission shifts firmer and changes shift points.

What does all that mean? Can any of the changes that it does to the engine or transmission affect or damage anything?

What do the transmission firmer and shift point changes do in layman's terms?

Will i get a good value from this purchase?

What is your goal/reasoning for thinking about this product? Performance? Sounds good? Miles per gallon?

Monkeying with your computer is probably unless you know what you're doing; in that respect (computer) I certainly don't.

Firmer transmission shifts will be a quicker, harder shift. Consider the difference between a smooth luxury car shift vs the harsh shift on a bus and you'll get the idea. You'll be moving towards the bus side with a firmer shift.

The shift points are the rpm and power settings at which the transmission will shift to the next gear. Generally, for more performance the trans will wait until the engine speed is higher, so as to stay in the power band and increase acceleration. What year is your Jeep? If it has an advanced computer (no I'm not sure what year) the transmission will adapt to your driving style anyway, and modify the shift points.

I don't think that changing the shift points or having a firmer shift will hurt anything; my concern would be what the download will do to your computer.

All that said, I have no idea about this product and can't recommend for or against it. You didn't list a price, so there's no reference as to whether you'll "get value" or not.

Hmm, after a Google search I don't think I'd buy it, but that's just me.

I don't get it either Fred. These things ain't sports cars they're 4X4 SUV's and damned heavy ones at that. Save your money for the car wash to get the mud off.
