Emission failed - p0325, p1446, p1444

Hi,

My 98 Nissan Altima failed emission test and when i took it to a local mechanic, he pulled the following code

P0325, P1446 and P1444

I was told that knock sensor and canister vent solinoid needs to be replaced and gave me an estimate of $600. Do you think its reasonable?

Also, there has always been a problem while filling the gas. The gas pump shuts off if i run at full throttle. I have it hold it half way while filling it up. Do you think its related to the emission problem?

Thanks in advance.

As per the Haynes manual P0325 is the knock sensor. I bought one on eBay for $89.00 It is located near the oil filter. I also replaced the canister purge valve myself for $95.00 for the part. The canister is located near the l/r wheel and is attached with 2 bolts. I would remove the valve and check the electrical connections first.
you won't notice any change in performance when you repair this stuff. This inspection system has become a cash cow for inspection stations. in my case the shop said the engine runs way under specs to pass emissions but when the light is on you automatically fail.
good luck

Knock sensors are anywhere from 90 to 140 bucks and can be alittle tricky to do. As far as your evap canister usually its the vent control valve that siezes. There are 2 10mm bolts that secure it to the canister , 1 hose and one electrical connector. After you remove it, Look into the part that goes into the canister , With a Pick the valve should move up and down Freely . Most cases it wont. If any of the bolts break taking the valve off the canister you will need them both. Try the valve first , If you get it off with out breaking bolts.. GL

Oh the Canister is located on the Driverside rear. where the muffler would be if it was on the drivers side.

What code would a faulty vent control valve give. I checked my car and get code 75. but can't find a fault code listed for those numbers. I pulled off the valve per your instructions and it wouldn't budge.
thanks
