93 Town Car engine light comes on

My mothers engine light comes on when the gas pedal is pushed to accelerate. It goes off after a few seconds but it seems to do this more all the time. In the beginning it was just when getting on an Interstate Highway and needing to get up to speed fast. The light does not come on when cruising down the Interstate at 70 mph. Any ideas?

my moms 93 crown victoria did the same exact thing. i wasn't really sure what it was but when the light would go on, i used to turn the overdrive off and the light would immediately go out and never come back on, even if there was quick acceleration. i don't know if it is something with the overdrive or not. however, at cruising speeds, the light would go off and stay off. this light has been going on and off the same way yours does for a very long time (probably started around 3 or 4 years after we bought the car in late 92). it would always pass inspection so i dont know what the deal was. it is a soft code because the light does not stay on. basically, when the light goes on, then off, the computer corrects the problem on its own. if you like, try reseting the computer for starters to see if the light comes back on at any time. all you have to do is remove the negative battery cable for about 20-40 seconds and then reconnect it. this will clear the entire computer.
