from AT to manual swap S14

this is my thread since a while back, havent been on here as much since i sold my 95 240, got supra TT, sold supra, now want 240 again

Found a nice clean black 97 SE, ill try to get a hold of a guy tomorrow and go take a look at it and im sure ill get it.

Its an AT and i promised myself i wont get an AT 240 or any other sports car, but this one is clean and price is good and to good to pass up just because its an AT. I did a little bit of research, but wasnt able to get enough info just yet, but from what i was able to find is...

you need new clutch and brake assembly, with tranny and would i need a 5 speed ECU?

Do you guys suggest i buy a tranny from a dealer and how much do they go for, or should i get a tranny from a wreck yard instead and hoping its in good working order...

i believe the drive shaft is the same length, and the new tranny should bolt right up with the AT tranny mount.

Ill look into this more tomorrow, after or before i go look at the car.
(who knows i might even like the AT and drive like a grandman for a while )

You will also need a new flywheel and clutch (unless thats what you were saying up there, but I was thinking that you meant pedal assemblies...)

Re: from AT to manual swap S14

get one from the junkyard. a dealership tranny would cost upwards of 800 bucks, and if anything you can take it to a tranny shop and have them look it over for 100 bucks or so.

Re: from AT to manual swap S14

I did a tranny swap on a ka24e powered 1990 Nissan D21 Pickup Truck

This is what I learned and will probably apply to your swap.

The only way to do this is to find an S14 M/T in a junkyard and start robbing it of EVERYTHING.
Transmission and everything bolted to it.
Flywheel
Driveshaft
Crossmember
Brake Pedal
Brake Pedal Bracket
Clutch Pedal
Clutch Pedal Bracket
Master Cylinder and ALL Hydraulic Lines and Mounting Brackets.
All of the interior pieces and Shifter Boots
Save every single nut, bolt, clip, and doohickie that you move, touch, or remove when dismantling the M/T S14.

This is not something you can go by parts for, there are tons of little things that you will need and can only feasibly get by pulling the parts yourself

Might want to get ecu, mine never ran right again after the swap.

And then don't forget
There was ton's of wiring that I never bothered to do because it sucked.

Oh yeah, and prepair to be completely perplexed. One thing I can say is save yourself the trouble and do it right. Pull the dash off of your vehicle and the donor vehicle, it's the only way

Good Luck

Re: from AT to manual swap S14

wow this sounds exciting haha, so ECU off a manual car is needed or not, but its a good idea to take it anyways?

im sure its going to be a lot of work, but if i dont rush it i can get it done in a few weekends maybe?

i found this good site right here http://www.240sx.org/links/installs/s14_5speed_swap.htm

my best bet is to take that and print it and take it to a local wreck yard, if i cant find anything myself, take it to the guys that pull it and let them get all the stuff i need.

Looks like a great write-up. And the list is exactly everything I listed, except, make sure you grabe the brackets that the brake pedal and clutch pedal are bolted too on the firewall.

If you've got the time, this is a great way to get your hands on a babied chassis for much less than the same one would cost with a M/T. This something anyone can do with the time and patience.

Only thing is, now you just have to find a M/T S14 in a junkyard somewhere.

That's a lot of money.
Ask for an itemized list on all of the parts, then you will have a better handle on bartering that down. well, if he's pulling all of the parts and warrantying them for refunds, then I'd say it's a good deal.
