While waiting in the car for the wife with the engine running in the hot S.Texas weather, I noticed the temp gauge creeping into the hot range. I
shut off the car and checked under the hood. I saw the plastic radiator
fan melted where it slips on the motor shaft. I made it home moving like a
shark to get airflow across the corolla radiator.
Ok, I replaced the fan/motor assembly. Checking everything while I'm there,
fuse was OK (30A). Relay (green colored) was very discolored. I tested it
and it had a dead short across the energizer terminals and they were melted and discolored. I was testing the radiator fan switch by the thermostat housing (single wire) and found it passed ground when it was stone cold. I could hear a relay clicking when I connected the wire to it.
Is this switch grounded when cold? Or is it stuck in the on position and ran the fan till something failed? I don't want to burn something else. Thanks goldy9955 Maybe I need a fan and a/c schematic.
