My beloved little SL2 was killed this past weekend :(

Alex and I were out and about enjoying the weather (it snowed in the Phoenix area this weekend if you can believe that). The cliffnotes version of what happened is in the link. As you read through the captions, some of the information is repetitive/redundant, however I want it clear that WE did not cause the accident. Several witnesses said we did, but I think they only saw us hit the Neon and didn't realize someone else had hit it already and we got hit by someone else and got pushed into it. Alex used to be a licensed PI who investigated stuff like this. He pointed out to the cops how the skid marks the Altima left shows that he hit us and pushed us, and damage on the Neon's rear shows marks where it was hit prior to us being pushed into it...the way my car lines up with the Neon, it's obvious we got pushed into it.

Overall the car held up well. 2 or 3 others went away in the ambulance. All cars but mine were towed. My right front tire was destroyed so Alex put the spare on and we drove it to a Saturn dealer a mile away. Part of the frame was pushed into my left rear tire. Oh the scraping noise and burning rubber smell as we drove. My insruance declared it a total loss, so tomorrow we're getting the check for it. They offered us about $800 above Blue Book so we were happy with that. the other guy's insurance has not admitted liability yet. My attorney at work said I should probably just take the money from my ins. now and let them go after the other guy later.

But on a good note I already have another car, a 2002 SL2. The only option I didnt get on this one is the sunroof...which I am going to miss but at least I have a car now. I'll have to load up some new pics and a new sig soon.

As for me and Alex we're sore but we'll live. We are just glad things weren't worse. We are also glad if we were in my Saturn and not of his Roadmasters. In the RM we wouldnt have been able to stop quickly and probably would have plowed into the Neon which had an elderly couple in it.

It sucks dealing with accident crap, but I am sure there's some reason it all had to happen.

Thanks We'll be fine...we're sore for now, my leg has a nasty cut and bruise from where my shin hit the dash. It's an eyeopener and reminder of how quickly things can happen.

Glad you're both ok, sorry 'bout the car.

Having worked as an auto liability adjuster, sounds like you should be in the clear. Your lawyer is right, take the $$ from your company, they'll go after the other company and once everything is sorted out you'll get your deductible back.

I am hoping the fact Alex was NOT cited is a plus. Some witnesses did tell the cops we hit the Neon first. The accident happened so quickly I am sure these folks really believe that's what they saw. My concern is that 1 or 2 of the other ins. companies might try to put partial fault on us. I am hoping the fact that the Neon's left side was facing us will show in our favor we didn't rear end it...plus I think the damage on my front end would be way worse if we had actually hit it, rather than being pushed into it.

The car was like a dog, faithful and well behaved The thing that sucked the worse was the fact that my Saturn was the best of our 3 cars as far as reliabilty was concerned.

We got Alex a 2006 Scion TC just about 2 hours before getting my new Saturn. We were already in the market for a car for him, we just weren't expecting to have to replace 2 cars

Re: My beloved little SL2 was killed this past weekend :(

Ouch, that sucks. I know what it's like to be caught in the middle of an accident, except at the time, i was driving a 92 civic hatch, and got squished between a 2k3 volvo V70 and a '97 M3. Stupid volvo driver was too busy trying to dial his cellphone to notice i was at a dead stop. At a traffic light. Behind a very expensive bimmer. The worst part is, i KNOW the guy got a brand new car a week later, while i got stuck with a $1600 check that doesnt get you shit for decent cars these days, so i was out a car for 2 months, cuase my rx-7 was still down. Bah.

Anyway, glad you guys didnt get too roughed up. There will be more cars. I think He'll like the tC, its a sharp looking car, and a toyota product.

i know what you mean. I paid $8K for the 99, that was out the door at a dealer. The crappy thing is you get paid what the car's worth at the present time, not for how much it was when you got it. And if the car's not worth much, good luck finding a replacement in the same price range to get something reliable. The payout for my old Saturn will cover almost 2/3 of of what I had to spend to replace it, but I still have 1/3 that I ahd to scrape out of the bank.

Alex already loves the Scion. He's already itching to play with it Nevermind the unfinished Roadmonster project that still needs love too
