Starter replacement: Do I need

to remove any part of the exhaust system on the 3.2L auto??

Figures, some of these parts that I've never replaced are starting to go ALL at once, this is killing me $$$$ wise!

Anybody know how much one costs for these Isuzu's? And is it a job that can be done in an hour or so, or is it pretty difficult. This job was easy on my Toy, but this Rodeo doesn't give you much room to move.

Depends on several factors. If its 2wd apparently there is enough room to sneak it out without removing the exhaust. On my 2nd gen 4x4 I had to remove the exhaust head pipe which took forever. If you dont live in the rust belt then just some pb blaster on the bolts and the exhaust should come out fairly easy. Mine started life in wisconsin so the bolts to the y-pipe flange were 'welded' in place with rust. I couldnt get the heads to snap off so I finally gave up till the next day and brought home my sawzall and cut them off. The Manifold bolts came off fairly easy.

Apparently you can also remove the motor mount bolts, jack up the engine and get it out that way.

I bought the Autolite one from Checkers. If you do it yourself check the old starter for some locating dowels where the bolts go through and save them for the new one. They dont come with them and its alot harder to get it lined up properly without them.

on the wifes 99 4x4 rodeo, we loosened the motor mounts, and jacked up the motor, this gave just enough room (lol just enough room) to remove the starter. you still have to snake your arm and the part a little bit. couldnt find a autoparts around the south carolina area that carrys isuzu parts, so had to get it straight from isuzu.

Thanks - it appears after we tightened up the alternator that the starter is fine, not another issue has occured and truck is firing right up without concern.
