Fuel Economy problems

I've been only getting 10-12 mpg in town...I baby it too. That seems too low...dirty fuel injectors? I also heard a bad catylic converter would get me bad gas mileage too...could that be it? HEEELLLP!!!!!!

Also...I'm gonna get a new air filter...Fram Air Hog.........................or K&N??? I'm thinkin K&N...but not sure.

Re: Fuel Economy problems

Not sure what you mean by 2WD with 4WD option. But I would start with wires, rotor and cap and see what that does. Is the check engine light on or anything? Air Filter would help also, K&N is nice as long as you don't do alot of dirt or off road driving.

Here's a few questions that will help if you know them.

How long has it gotten 10-12?
How long have you owned?
what did it used to get?
What mpg does it get on hiways?
How long are your trips?
How do you test mpg ?
Is your speedometer correct?

I haven't had it all that long. I just don't think it should be gettin that low. I've owned it since last summer.
highways....16-18
We go to Colorado sometimes...(8 hours) usually its an hour or less
when I fill up...its trip miles over amount of gas put in.
speedometer is correct

Re: Fuel Economy problems

Go to advance auto or somewhere similar and try fuel system cleaner that helped improve my gas mileage

Its cheap about 4-6 dollars

Also have your catalytic converter checked as well it helps

Ive got a K&N it works pretty well........ its easy to clean

Maybe by 2wd with 4wd option he is trying to say part-time 4wd................

Anyone know anything about that MPG Cap?

I agree, it is poor mpg. It sounds like all your figures are correct. Your mpg is consistant between the two tests also. I have the exact same vehicle and get what the sticker shows usually. 18 city / 23 hiway. That is what it has always gotten.

It has got to be something in engine, timing/mixture/gearing/torkconverter
sorry I can't be more specific, I am surprised it doesn't have a error code and some smoke and smell, it probably runs and idles great?

When was the last time you changed them?

What about the cap and rotor?

Ever changed the O2 sensors?

Re: Fuel Economy problems

Have you checked to see if you have a stuck brake caliper or parking brake?

You got a point there, that was one of my major causes of the horrible fuel economy on mine.

i havent done any specific "test" if there is such thing...but ive replaced pads twice...im sure i would have noticed? but with the wheel off...(front right) when you try to spin it...it is pretty stiff...you hear a little...kinda like the sound if u rub ur hands together...as for the parking brake...i pull it often just to make sure
but i still wanna kno more bout spark plug wires...scroll up a little...thats the stuff i wanna kno.
but tell me also what i can do to actually "test" calipers...and find out if its bad...ive had problems with that wheel squeeking too....maybe its barely rubbing and so it glazes really fast?
