Which Tire?

I'm thinking about getting some new tires for my 3kgt. What would you guys reccomend? I tried reading some reviews but I'm afraid some of those are bias. I currently have Kuhmo excst supras. Do you think I should stick with those or get something else. And nothing thats practically impossible to drive in snow. I want sports tires but these ones are about as bad as I'll tolerate for bad weather. However, they were great on the hot pavement.

Re: Which Tire?

Escta Supras arent supposed to be driven in the snow for one. I have had those and also Continental Touring tires.

Re: Which Tire?

Falken makes AWESOME ass tires IMO. You can get some all season tires is you want... are you planning on getting rims for your car??? Cuz if so, I'd get some falken 451s on a set of rims, and some nice winter tires for your stock rims, that way you can use the stock rims in the winter, and the aftermarket in the spring, fall, and summer.

Either way though, Falken makes good stuff, but the Kuma ESCTA's aren't bad at all.

Re: Which Tire?

This is the perfect post as I just purchased new tires for my car (they come in tomorrow). I choose the Kumho Ectas ASX tires. Only 98/piece and got them with free shipping from www.discounttire.com. Very good tires and very good price.

Re: Which Tire?

Actually I failed to mention that as of right now I have Bridgestone Turanzas on the front and the ecstas in the back just so I can catch traction in the snow. So, I might get all new ecsta supras and keep my turanza touring tires for the front of my car for winter. I'm also going to check into those Falken tires. Any others?

Re: Which Tire?

when you are looking for tires, be aware of tEh tread rating. my Yokohama's have a tread rating of 500AA, which is clost to the highest tread rating, if not THE highest tread rating for a sports car tire.

granted my Yokohama's are coupled with suspensions uprgades including sway and strut bars and an LSD insert, the Yokohama Avid V4S from discounttiredirect.com were just $88/tire, and they afforded me an incredible tire with a long lasting tread while being quite reliable with respect to handling and duration.

Re: Which Tire?

You do not want tires that slip on the rear of a car. Trust me. I spun out really bad one winter and tagged some guard rails because of having tires with lesser tread on the rear.

Re: Which Tire?

Yeah, my rear Kuhmos would slide out here and there but it wasn't that bad with a FWD car.

One thing you have to be aware of is that tread ratings are only relative to other tires from that manufacturer. There are currently no stantards that designate the what one Manufacturer designates a "A" or another designates as "AA".

Also the are usually based on Dry pavement conditions.

That said Yokos tires have some of the best dry pavement tires I have seen, Bridgestone the best wet traction (as long as you get the dual compound tires), michellin better in the corners because they seem to tend to use a stiffer sidewall (and balance better because of the radial construction).

But if you are on a budget Kumho and Falken are currently the best bank for the buck.
