Re: 91 s-10 problem

First, did he install the new alternator and battery because he was having the problem or did it happen after one or both where installed?

Re: 91 s-10 problem

the truck has a new motor in it so it has a new alternator and a new battery was installed, i think that there is a wire grounding out some where. I am going to look tommarow and see if i can find any thing.

Re: 91 s-10 problem

exactly. have charging systm checked. autozone does it for free. alt. is not charging battery. double check all wiring to alt. red/blk(or red)goes to battery, pnk/blk wire to fuse box(ign/gauge fuse 20amp), brown to chare indecator gauge. check that fuse and make sure conection to battery is clean and tight.
sometimes a rebuilt alt. from parts stores are bad. this could be your case.

Re: 91 s-10 problem

i had the alt and battery chacked and they are both good, so it has to be grounding out somewhere.

Re: 91 s-10 problem

Just a little somthing to think about - about 10 years ago I had the same problem, took the alternator down had it tested(twice) they said it was good both times, check all the wiring still no luck, finally I changed the alternator anyway and that is what it was, aparently the alternator it self shorted out when it was tested it tested ok but on the vehicle it would loose more power than it could provide.
Good Luck !!

Re: 91 s-10 problem

I was speeding up past the fuckin' Convent of nuns off Franklin last night where they installed speedbumps and knocked my leadwire out of the ignition coil! I just totally died and wouldn't restart till I popped the hood, you might wanna check the wires to the coil or from the coil.

Re: 91 s-10 problem

ok, here is the update, i looked at it, and some 16year old kid had it befor him and had a system in it and the stero system in it. So first off some of thoes wires were grounding off the battery. And i looked at the battery positive cable and where it screw to the battery the threads were striped so it was not getting a good conecion. And then who ever installed the new motor, screwed up alot of wireing under the dash by the fuse box. Half the fuses were not even there, and some wires were dangeling. So my uncle just talked to the guy who he bought it from and he gave him his money back. Thanx alot for all your guys help!!!
