3000GT VR4: 2 kills one day Stang and Camaro

So I got tired of the college kids in my area always revving to race and never doing anything back. I own a 93 VR4 stock, but all dealership repaired as well as 10K for a rebuilt drive train (tranny, transfercase, shafts...). Anyway everyone around here that sees it has little idea what it really is except 2 or 3 3kgt owners that have pulled fast to catch up then just given a nod or a thumbs up.

Kill 1

Well yesterday I was heading home on lunch and i was sitting in the turn lane for a left right behind a Red Mustang, no rear exhaust but I heard it growling, assuming GT but when I passed the exhaust said SHO on it i think. Anyway I finally decided to give a rev back and that is all it took. We got green and he turned left into one lane and I knew he wanted some so I pulled up next to him. Gave the nod and we were off. I didnt drop hard as I have no idea what my car can take, but launched from a 5 mile roll at about 4k rpm. I heard that growl and stayed next to him right through second where i had to back off to get behind him and pass another car. I shifted to 3rd at around 75MPH and got back over and decided that was enough, dropped back to 2nd... redlined it, hit 90ish, shifted to 3rd stomped it out and left him behind. I guess he missed his turn cause I saw him in my rear slow suddenly and take a U.

Kill 2

So I am heading to class, taking an evening class after work, since my company pays for it. On a nice stretch of road with a long curve 2 lanes plus turns on both sides. I pull up through traffic only to meet a White Camaro with Orange stripes who starts dogging me, I need to get to the right lane to turn off and he speeds up when I do and slows down when I do so I clutch give him a rev and prepare. He guns it, I drop behind him and over to the turn lane, pull next to him and see he wants to get over. He stomps on the gas, I stomp on the gas my turbos spool up (3rd gear) and then it was over, shot past him, he dropped behind me, I had ECS in sport, down shifted at the turn (2nd) , clutched out to slow down, started around it and stepped back on the gas and off the clutch. Top out shift, look back and see him finally coming around the corner sideways. I hit the next turn a left, clear of traffic, down shift and clutch out to slow down, pull into it, accelerate... By the time I hit the next turn for the entrance for my building he was gone, finally saw him come around the last turn as I was getting out of my car.

Granted these kills arent much competition but its better than bragging about murdering the usual hondas, cavaliers, and saturns that actually think they can pull on me. Poor kids, one guy thought i drove an avenger, then he thought it was a stealth, then he saw the name, didnt know what a VR4 was. A buddy of his offered to race me with his truck cause it had a bigger engine, it had a 4.0 V6... When will they learn.

Nice kills. They were probably the kind of people who only knew about V8's inside a Mustang , Camaro, or any other long time muscle car. It's good to give the ignorant a wake up call every now and then.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

rustangs are overrated, and if the camaro was an 8 cyl then it was probly an LT1. either way good kills,, vr-4's can be pretty quick.

Re: 3000GT VR4: 2 kills one day Stang and Camaro

The mustang you thought was a SHO was most likely an SVO and it's easy to see why you would mistake the badge. The first SVO was made in 1984 and they ran up to 1986. There were two power ratings in that time span, 175 hp and 205 hp in 1985-1986.

It had a turbocharged I-4 for a powerplant. There are also very few of them left.

Nice kills.

Re: 3000GT VR4: 2 kills one day Stang and Camaro

Sorry havent been back over here in a while.

the mustang looked like a 00 model, I am not absolutely sure on the exhaust but it was coming out on both sides of the car, in front of the tires, had a definite ground effects kit on it and it looked smooth. I would venture a guess he was V8 because it was pretty mean sounding and had a nice lope to it.

the camaro looked identical to this one not certain on the Z28 badging though, was going too fast to notice.
