460/C6 into 89 tbird
Im planning to drop a 460 into my 89 tbird. Has anyone done this? Trying to gather as much information about this before I start. Also, wondering if the rear end will hold up to the new found power.

if there are smog laws, they will be on you
depends on which rear you have... and it seems a lil big to stuff into that bay to me...but it might be able to be done...

Re: 460/C6 into 89 tbird
I knew a guy who did this but his was for a drag car not a street car.
You better have lots of weight in the rear to offset the enormous weight on the front as well as heavy duty front suspension. TerminalVelocity brought up a very good point about the rear, I do not think the stock rear in the 89 will withstand the torque from the 460. I have a 72 T-bird with the 460 and the 8.8 rear is has holds up well but you may want to upgrade to a heavy duty racing axle and differential. If you use the stock axle you will destroy it in a very short time. All other problems aside this is one you will need to spend some serious $$ on. My friend used an aluminum racing rear axle and it set him back around $20k but he is a serious racer/dragster. You may want to contact a good speed shop or racing shop and get some options. I will warn you this is going to be very $$$$$$. If you get it done please post some pics I am sure we would all love to see it. Good luck with it Mark
