spray painting a car...help

hey fellas let me give you the scoop.

i have an old beat up ford f-150 and its paint is falling off and there is some rust. i would like to sand the rust off and spray paint the car for kicks and giggles.

now, i know how easy for me to run down to home depot and pick up some cans but i would to do some research beforehand.

can you tell me the names of some good spray paint and where i can get it? i dont want to spend too much but i do want it to be decent.

aight guys thanks...

John

Re: spray painting a car...help

from what i hear you should prolly sand down the whole car and then multiple coat it with primer then muiltply coats of paint of whatever color and make sure you tape off parts you dont want paint on and then use clear coat on top of the paint colors..... you should just go to the store and usually "what you pay for is what you get" .... so the best paint would probally just be the most expensive lol .... not always but most of the time but hey good luck with that, what color are you gonna paint it? if ur in the sticks and its a truck make it camoflouged .... thatd be sweet but also alot of work too i guess..

If the rust is bad you might wanna try some body filler first

If you just want to make it the same color, Just wet sand the truck and buy some flat paint and shoot it. I did a 1966 chevy with rustoleum(sp) flat black and it looked decent and if you got a scratch just shoot that spot again. Easy to take care of and the whole job cost $20.00. One piece of advice, wear a respirator!!! If I can find a pick of the truck, i'll post it.
