Broken Door Handle

So I live in Mount Pleasant, MI. I went out to the car a few weeks ago and pulled on my door handle so I could open it up (obviously). And it was only like 13 degrees outside...maybe colder...and car was icy and what not. So as I pull on it and it just breaks off. Before that my door locks stopped working...even in the warmth they don't work..they are just locked. and won't move with the use of my key.

SO ANYWAY.

How much is it to get a new door handle??? And why did my locks stop working from the outside when it got cold out and now won't even work in the warmth????

You can go one of two routes:

1. Ebay door handle
-will need to have painted
-slightly cheaper plastic, more prone to break
-should fit properly
-can find for about $20-$30 shipped

2. OEM door handle
-already painted the stock gloss black color, so no need to paint
-fits perfect
-can find these on Ebay for about ~$65 shipped

I went with option 2. I think I found a dealer selling them on Ebay for $66 shipped, when the dealer closest to me wanted $75 (wtf

) and that was with me picking it up, so no shipping cost included in that. Then I took it to a local Dodge dealer and they installed it for $20, I didn't want to bother the hassle of installing it myself. It was well worth the money to me.

For the locks, I would check your fuses first.

its pretty easy to install them i did both of mine and i went with option 1

80 bucks,they charge 90 an hour in labor here and they said to me for 2 handles its a 2 hour job,they wanted like 3oo and something dollers for mine thats why i did it myself for free

That's cheap as shit, did they install it for free? The dealer by me wanted to charge that much just for the handle itself, so Ebay was the way to go.

I got one off ebay last year and it is holding up just fine

I painted it myself since i have a gun, but i used my touch up gun on it. I got kine on ebay for $18

Yea I go to CMU it's crazy but I love it.

P.S. Why have alll of yall's door handles broken?? It's that common for them to break or what?

Yeah i think that it must be pretty common for the door handles to break cuz when i got my 96 gs i had to replace the driver side . and now that i just bought my 98 spyder i will be having to replace the passenger side!!!!!!!

Hey ... maybe we should try to get up a group buy on door handles lol !!!!!

Yes, very common. Cheap plastic + heavy door = massive number of broken handles.

Hmm yea that's a good point the doors are really heavy and it isn't exactly a hummer of a door handle. Funny thing is I didn't even pull the door yet...thing came off as if it wasn't even attached.

That's funny tho about all the door handles.
DAMNIT It's freaking annoying tho...everytime I go to get in the car I have to walk to that side and then kneel in and crap and then walk around.
There wasa windstorm the other day and I opened the door from the passenger side and the drivers side door swung open ( I tried to open it the least I could but the wind still caught it) and it hit the cheap car next to me and left a dent. That's not good.

I'll shut up tho I am going to get a doorhandle off ebay.
