Whay would you do with a 2.4?

So here's the deal.

I've had my 95 Tsi AWD 5spd talon out of commition for so long, that when it's finally finished, I don't want any unexpected surprises.

Let me get you up to speed. My timing belt broke at idling speed and wreaked havoc on the internals. I knew that I would be redoing the top end, so I bought SS 1 mm over Ferea valves, springs and titanium retainers and opted for a 1st gen head.

After, I ripped off the head I saw that the pistons suffered small imprints from the valves and that my rings on two cylinders were letting oil by. So time to rebuild.

I decided to source out a 2nd gen head with one exhaust valve blown out in trade for mine. Had some valve work done and replaced the missing valve and I'm in the process of slapping this back togethers so I would at least have something to drive.

Now I've got my hands on a 92 Sonata motor, the 1st gen head and a 2.4 stroker kit consisting of JE pistons and Eagle rods 9:1 compression. I really need to get some opinions on proper turbo (big 16g or 20g?), intake and exhaust manifold, the right Cometic head gasket, exhaust diameter (3-4 inch) EMS, injectors, fuel needs, clutch ect.

As I understand, the stock drivetrain is good for around 450 hp and my budget is already stretched. Ideally, what would you guys do with this project?

P.S. Sorry I've been gone so long, our computer bit the dirt. It must have broke it's timing belt too!

Re: Whay would you do with a 2.4?

Both those turbos are far too small for a stroker motor. Get a magnus SMIM, port the stock 2g exhaust manifold, look at a forced performance turbo, the 3065 is a perfect fit for strokers IMO, 3 inch turbo back exhaust, DSMLINK, 1000cc injectors or higher, walbro 255,

These parts are expensive, but if you want to do a stroker right, that's how to do it.

And the wing dude....ouch

Re: Whay would you do with a 2.4?

I agree, the 56 trim wheel is the smallest I would go on a strocker (GT35R, GT14, 3065/3565, etc). 650 hp capacity and full boost by ~3700 in my experience. Something in the mid 50 lbs/min range would also work like a GT3076, but you'll be limited. A 20g probably wouldn't even hold 20 psi on a strocker. You'll still be able to make the same top HP that the turbo can make, just at much lower boost. Which is a good thing, except that you'll be mased out so easily.

Not to mention with these big turbos you can outflow your MAS. You'll need another way to measure airflow.

Is the G4CS engine a 100% match with the W5M33 tranny?

50 trim plus 2.4= match made in heaven

Sorry to hear the shitty news, sounds exactly like what happened to my dsm about a year ago.

Re: Whay would you do with a 2.4?

a 50 trim would max out to easily IMO. I was running my spring pressure of 20 psi and getting 55 lbs/min, which puts a maxed out 50 trim around 17-18 psi No fun...

Re: Whay would you do with a 2.4?

Stroker ftw! I have a 2.3 stroker, well I will once I get done assembling it. And I have the same rebuild kit you pretty much have. I would go with the setup crunchymilk suggested. It's the same I am going with except I am going to be using a massive PTE turbo that used the mitsu manifold.

Re: Whay would you do with a 2.4?

Thanks for the feedback. So a ported 2G exhaust manifold would suffice? Or is there an equal length tubular I should be looking at? What would you guys do for air measuring? The GM MAF?

Re: Whay would you do with a 2.4?

Yeah word, I would look into a nice sized manifold mount. A stroker needs a huge turbo man, the smallest I would go would be a 60-1. Get DSMlink and 900-1000cc injectors, you may need them with such a wide range of options available to the stroker. I wouldnt go AEM EMS, the EMS is like $2000 and doest the same thing as the $500 DSMlink. A walbro 255 and AFPR should do you fine. I would hit SBR for the clutch, I would get the bigger of the two in your case. Have fun you bastard!
