Local Chyrsler store charged me $420 to change plugs, wires and do an oil change. Has anyone else had this service performed? If so, at what price?

Re: How's $420 for spark plugs and an oil change sound?
That's a rediculous price. Come on, four plugs @ 2$ each, wires at 25-50 bucks, and 8$ for oil and 8$-$15 for filter. That's @ $80 tops for parts, $340 for labor that only takes an hour. I think they need to be introduced to the better bus. berue. Excuse the spelling. Or better yet, report them to Daimler Chrysler. I would have blown my stack.

! Did they buy you lunch or dinner first. Next time just drop your pants and back in! That is way too much for what they did. Report them to the Better Business Bureau...http://www.bbb.org/ |

I'd get on the phone to the BBB, and I'd start calling Chrysler (not the dealer). You want to talk to a district or regional service manager and show them a copy of that bill. Any shop should be willing to show you a service labor guide which details how long any given job should take on any given vehicle. It may be called an 'estimator's guide'....... every corner repair and body shop has one. I'll bet it lists under 1hr for changing plugs & wires. Unless the shop has a big sign posted that says their labor rate is $340/hour, you got ripped off bad.

Re: How's $420 for spark plugs and an oil change sound?
I remember my son going to a Crysler dealer in Winnipeg and being charged
$300.00 for front brake pads only. They did not even turn the drums. I was out of town when this happened, but was I peeved. Not much you can do once the work has been done. Lesson learnt by my son. The best pads are worth $70.00, plus what, one half hour labour? Wayne |
