Smile loss of power

Hello everyone,

I wonder if anyone has a suggestion about what my car problem could be.
My 95 SL2 manual just doesn't seem to have any power anymore.
I push the gas pedal and it is almost as if it is getting air instead of fuel.
I don't know how to explain it, the best analogy I can think of is like a vaccum without suction.
It seems to make some kind of low whining noise sometimes. Any clues for a clueless person like me?
Another thing, the clutch seems to be tight and hard to use too.
Any responses will be greatly appreciated!Thank you.

Re: loss of power

I would start by checking all the fluids. If anything seems a miss then investigate it more. If you haven't given it a tune-up lately now would be a good time. But if you do all these and it still isn't running right I think you might need to get a new clutch. I've seen clutches last for a long time it depends on how you drive them. After you get the fluids checked and a tune-up write back on how the performance has changed.

Re: loss of power

wheres your temperature gauge reading?

i would definitely suggest a tune up if it hasnt had one in a while, and check to see what the spark plugs look like.

does it seem to bog down, as if it has lost power and doesnt want to move, or does it seem to want to move really well but go pretty much no where?

if the engine seems to bog more, then its running rich. if the engine seems to want to go but doesnt, then its running lean.

Re: loss of power

It sounds to me like his clutch might be slipping.

Re: loss of power

ah, i just noticed the clutch thing. now i know a guy who had the same problem with a stiffer clutch, but im not sure if he replaced the clutch, but he did replaced the hydraulics on it.

so a little prelim check on the clutch, where does it seem to engage? where does it seem to disengage? does it seem to grind after you disengaged it and your trying to move? does your rpms seem to increase while speedo doesnt?

Re: loss of power

Thank you everyone for responding, I haven't checked in here so I just now picked up all your msgs-
Now when I accelerate there is kind of a whining noise(I apologize for being so ignorant when trying to explain) -
They replaced my EGR Valve and did a fuel injection cleaning-
Still the same issue-
The clutch is a different story, does it even have anything to do with my problem? I wish I would know more about cars, maybe I should take a class-
Thanks and sorry for the late response-

Re: loss of power

well it could be, but you would notice if it was a clutch slipping. the rpms would increase but speed would be the same or very slowly climb.

the whinning noise doesnt help too much, as with any noise people hear. its easier to actually be there to hear the noise and find it.

what kind of gas mileage have you been getting lately, and how does it compare to before?
