Brakes suck! Help!

Ok so a few months ago my dad replaced my brake pads on my car. Over time the brakes have been really squishy, and I have to press them a few times over and over to get myself slowing down. At first it wasn't so bad, I figured it was just some air in there and it would go away. But for the past bit the problem has gotten worse. When I am at a full stop the brake pedal sinks all the way to the floor! And my stopping distance is HUGE. I have to drive it really slow and carefully. And since my dad passed away I have no idea how to fix it (he was always the one working on it when it had problems) so I came here hoping someone would give me an idea where to start looking. Someone said it might be the brake boost controller, but when I had it smogged the guy said it wouldn't be that, it would be really stiff if that went out. Another dude said that the rear brakes might be shot. I am at a loss and need some help! My car is a 92 Acura Integra RS and if you guys out there could give my clueless ass some ideas where to look for problems I could work on it. Thanks a ton for any responses!

I have the same exact problem. I just haven't had time to look it over. My inspection is way past due and cops around here are getting bad. I need it fixed soon. My car is a 94 ls.

well if the brakes are bleeding off you either have a bad master cylinder, or a leak in the lines somewhere. If it was just air in the lines the pedal would feel squishy but probably wouldn't get worse while holding it down. Do you ever have to top off or refill your brake resovoir?

I never have to fill the brake fluid up at all. That makes me think it's the master cylinder. I was checking around and that's what seems it might be, but I am not sure on how to fix the thing or how hard it is. The part is cheap, like 50 bucks so if the fix is easy and I could do it on a day off maybe that would be great.
